Open Call: Senior Research Scientist in Computational Psychology

The Department of Psychology and the newly-formed Azrieli Israel Center for Addiction and Mental Health (ICAMH) at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, invite applications for a full-time position (non-tenure-track) as a Senior Research Scientist in Computational Psychology. We welcome applications from candidates who have a strong academic record, and substantial experience in computational approaches to psychology, cognition, or mind and behavior.

The successful applicant will lead the establishment of a new Research Support Unit for Computational Studies of Mind and Behavior, within the Center for Addiction and Mental Health and with close collaboration with the Department of Psychology. As head of the Research Support Unit, the successful applicant will collaborate with different members of the department and the center on projects requiring the use of advanced computational and statistical tools. They will also develop and offer training opportunities for faculty and students on advanced computational approaches in psychological sciences. In addition, they will have the opportunity to lead their own research projects with large-scale data to be collected at the Center for Addiction and Mental Health.

Requirements:

• A PhD in psychology, cognitive sciences, data science, computer science, or a related field.

• Substantial experience in leading studies in computational and/or mathematical psychology or related fields, reflected in the applicant’s publication record and history of conference participation.

• Proven experience with state-of-the-art computational tools that can be applied in psychological research (e.g., advanced data science, machine learning, Large Language Models, etc.).

• An excellent colleague and team-player, with proven record of academic collaborations.

• Willingness and interest in working with different stakeholders, including researchers, administrators, and funding agencies, to lead the establishment of the research support unit.

• Advantage: Teaching experience in computational and statistical approaches to psychology.

• Advantage: Proven record of successful grant applications in relevant fields.

We expect the position to begin at the beginning of the 2024-2025 academic year. Opening the position is subject to budgetary considerations. The successful applicant will be employed through the Center for Addiction and Mental Health. Note that we view this position as a long-term one: We will therefore prioritize candidates who are interested in maintaining a Senior Research Scientist position for multiple years. The successful applicant will be hired for a fixed term of 3 years initially, which can be further extended pending satisfactory performance and budgetary considerations.
